Tom Verlaine Rest In Peace…

On today’s record rant Tom Verlaine passed away yesterday and I had finally got Marquee Moon on vinyl recently. I had had cd before that.
A very unique and inspiring guitar player. Known to play a Jazzmaster early on. Marquee Moon has some very beautiful guitar work and transports you to New York 1977 when you hear it. Play some Television today if you have it. I’m going to.

Picked up a brand new copy of Aerosmith Toys in the Attic on audiophile vinyl last week. This was my most played record in my youth. I only had a handful of records as a kid and I got this by trading my best friends brother for my copy of Boston’s Don’t look back. I really wore it out. I had the walk this way single too. We listen to a transistor radio on the walk to grade school which was where I first heard walk this way.
So this audiophile copy sounds great but in a few critical spots they took off the rough edges and while it sounds way more clear… you can hear things layered in you could not before…you miss a lot of Steven Tyler’s “honk”, if you will, it’s not cut hot enough in spots and that sounds on purpose.

It’s not gritty like I remember. It’s too much production.
Yet, I will probably give it a spin again. It kind of sounds like a Sargent Pepper version of this record or kind of pet sounds sounding.

Hope you’re having a good one out there. Until next time, Via Con Dios- Scoocher

Is Creativity Cringy?

The word “creative” used to describe an artist is “cringy” to me. I have been asked often if I am the kind of guy who paints because he wants to or has to. It has been said that the need to make art can stem from mental illness in people. It does take an obsessive compulsion at times to keep at it. Some get a type of therapy from it. They express themselves through the process.

This is how it tends to work for me. It’s not always fun. At times it’s a release of anxiety and fears. Other times an expression of my joy and love and gratitude for being alive.

I am not good at timing it takes to express my thoughts verbally often. I get the words wrong when put on the spot but if I have a few minutes I can write it out on paper much better. Better still I can paint you a picture of it with no words at all most times.

Like Jeff Spicoli needed tasty waves, all I need some sketch pads, pens, canvas, paints, room to paint in….and I’m fine…

Lately I started to make time outside the studio. You got to find the inspiration in the air out there. The only way.

Forget these creative apps and digital paints offered. It’s worth making a mess and smelling the lead pencil and acrylics.
If you know, you know…. I sell my art at popkustomshoppestore.com

I hope you will visit and see my latest art on the pages of popkustomshoppe.com as well.
